Polish culture and its values
Poland is founded on three core values:
- Identity – Poles are a highly patriotic people united by a strong sense of community felt by its citizens. Despite historical invasions by neighboring countries, Poles take pride in preserving their cultural identity and highly value their relatively recent national autonomy.
- Relationships – Polish society focuses on building and maintaining family and close personal relationships. Visitors must earn the trust of their Polish acquaintances before establishing closer connections. For this reason, Polish colleagues often take a formal approach in business initially. To make final decisions, they may need more time, as relationships and trust are paramount.
- Roman Catholicism – Historically, religion has played a very significant role in Polish society. As a result, Roman Catholicism forms a foundation of Polish identity. 90% of Poland’s population is Roman Catholic, providing a sense of solidarity and community for both the present and the future.
